Engineering notes
Camera network cable: Cat6, length, outdoors
Enough PoE watts and a 110 m run or indoor Cat5e in the sun — the picture still drops.
Cameras are listed, the switch has the watts, the gate still stutters. Measure: 110 m to the gate, unmarked cable, a rushed crimp. PoE and Ethernet share the pair — past 100 m or a bad termination you lose packets, not “a bad camera”.
Indoors: Cat6, under 100 m to the switch, labelled both ends. Outdoors: outdoor-rated cable or conduit, not indoor grade in the sun. The uplink from the edge switch to the recorder is its own line. Do not spend the last PoE port on it.
