Outdoor sensors: IP rating, sun, not an office head

An IP20 wall head on a metal roof dies in one wet season. State IP, a sun shield, temperature range.

A roof temperature, a courtyard air head, a balcony leak point — the schedule often copies the meeting-room model because “it is the same NTC”. An IP20 housing, one storm, oxidised pins, then a dead reading. Makers will not warranty a head used outdoors.

Outdoors needs the IP the file states (often IP65), a range that covers sun and night, a sun shield if the head is dark on a metal roof. Outdoor ducts: a long enough probe and a sealed gland. Do not put an office head in a junction box and call it weatherproof.
